Selection Process Overview

Submit Your Housing Application - Due March 11

The Housing Application is available in ResLife Online and closes 4:30 p.m. on March 11, 2026. No extensions or exceptions.

Create or Join a Roommate Group

Deadline to Create and Verify Roommate Groups

  • Suite Groups (four-person): Students who would like to live in a suite must select a “suite or connecting room” in the housing application and have a verified group of four students by 4:30 p.m. on March 17.
  • Double Groups (two-person): Students who would like to live in a double room with a specific roommate must select a “double room” in the housing application and have a verified group of two students by 4:30 p.m. on March 22.

Need Help Finding a Roommate?

There are some tools in the housing application to help students find a roommate. Students have the ability to search for prospective roommates by specific criteria or see a list of suggested roommates. Only students who sign up for housing selection will appear in the roommate search results. Because of this, it is important to check regularly for changes and new potential roommates.

Where to Manage Roommates and Roommate Groups

  1. Go to ResLife Online and complete the housing application.
  2. Open the housing application.
  3. Proceed to the “Roommates & Roommate Groups” menu.

Create or Join a Roommate Group

Open Roommates & Roommate Groups menu in the housing application. On this page, students have the option to search for specific students by name or Fisher email address, invite students to a group, or request to join a group.

The student who creates the group is designated as the group leader. The group leader has the ability to remove group members, delete the group, or transfer group ownership to another group member.

  • Invitation to Join a Roommate Group: When a group member invites a student to join a group, an email invitation is automatically sent to the invitee's student email account with instructions to accept or decline the invitation. Invitations expire after 7 days, so it is important for students to check their email regularly and accept invitations in ResLife Online.
  • Request to Join a Roommate Group: When a student requests to join a group. an email request is automatically sent to each group member with instructions to accept or decline the request. Group join requests expire after 7 days, so it is important for group members to check their email regularly and accept requests in ResLife Online.

Verify Your Roommate Group

In order to select a double room or suite as a roommate group, a group must be verified by the deadline. Groups will not be able to select housing without a verified status. Each time a group member is added or removed from a group, ResLife Online automatically checks to see if a group meets the verification criteria.

What are the criteria for a group to become verified?
  • The number of students in a group matches the room type requested (e.g., a suite group has 4 students).
  • There are no pending group invitations or requests, and all group members are confirmed.
How can I see if a group is verified?

Students can check the verification status of their group by opening the Roommates & Roommate Groups menu in the housing application. A pop-up is visible on the screen showing the group verification status.

Receive Your Selection Number

What is a housing selection number?

Students select housing by desired room type in order of housing selection number. Housing selection numbers are directly influenced by the number of credits a student has earned and the time they have lived on campus. As a result, the more credits you earn and the longer you have attended Fisher, the earlier you will select your room.

When will I receive my selection number?

Housing selection numbers will be posted in ResLife Online and emailed at 6 p.m. on March 12. For more information about housing selection numbers review the information at the bottom of this page or visit our FAQs.

Roommates and Groups

If you select a room with other students (double or suite), you will select a room according to your group selection number. Your group selection number is the average of the selection numbers of all of the students in your group.

Select a Room

Students will select rooms at their assigned time starting on March 16 through March 27. The day you select your room is determined by the room type you selected in your housing application and your selection number.

Room Selection Dates and Times

For room selection dates and times, please visit the complete housing selection timeline.

Room and Building Availability

Visit the building and room options page for a full listing of housing availability. Students who do not pick a room during selection will be considered to be withdrawn from the process.

  • “First-year” = Undergraduate students who entered the University in the fall or spring as a first-year student (this includes students who transfer as a first-year student).

Group Selection Number

For doubles and suites, your group selection number will be the average of the selection numbers of all of the students who want to live in the room. Students participating in housing selection without a roommate/group will use their individual housing selection number.
