Fisher’s 2025 Spirit of Identity Week Fosters Unity, Community
The third annual Spirit of Identity Week, running from Monday, Jan. 20 through Sunday, Jan. 26, will feature events and activities that celebrate the diversity of campus and foster a sense of community and belonging for students, faculty, and staff alike.
Spirit of Identity Week events are hosted by the Office of Multicultural Affairs in collaboration with several of Fisher’s student organizations.
“This week offers numerous benefits to our campus, from fostering cultural awareness to creating opportunities for learning and meaningful dialogue. Most importantly, it plays a vital role in building a sense of community among our students, faculty, and staff,” said Chelsea Marshall, assistant director of multicultural affairs.
Marshall has worked alongside the executive boards of each of the affinity clubs on campus to help them plan and execute the week. “It’s inspiring to see their efforts pay off and to watch them grow in their organizational strategies and leadership skills, ensuring the success of the event,” she said.
Events include the Black Student Union’s Fifty Shades of Brown Black Excellence Gala, First-Generation Tabling, Festival of Cultures, Interfaith Lunch and Discussion, Tu B’Shevat Shabbat Dinner, Celebration of Immigration, and a reading of “The Laramie Project.” Additionally, Fisher Dinning Services will offer culturally-representative menus featuring foods from diverse cultural backgrounds, including ethnic and regional specialties, throughout the week. The meals will often correspond with the featured event of the day.
Marshall said the highlight of the week is the sense of unity it fosters across campus.
“It’s not just about celebrating individual identities but also about creating a shared space where students, faculty, and staff come together to learn, connect, and appreciate one another’s cultures and perspectives. It’s this collective spirit that makes the week so impactful and memorable for everyone involved,” she explained.
