Record-Setting Residency Match Rates Rank in Top Four Nationwide

Wegmans School of Pharmacy Graduates’ Residency Match Rate Far Outpace National Statistics

A record-breaking 27 graduates from the Wegmans School of Pharmacy’s Class of 2019 will engage in year-long residency experiences, training in medical centers, community pharmacies, and health centers around the nation.

A record-breaking 27 graduates from the Wegmans School of Pharmacy’s Class of 2019 will engage in year-long residency experiences, training in medical centers, community pharmacies, and health centers around the nation.

This marks the highest number of graduates pursuing Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1) residencies in the School’s history. The percentage of students pursuing residency is also the highest-ever at Fisher, with 33 percent of the Class of 2019 matching with residencies, a growing trend for the School.  In the last four years, the percentage of each graduating class to match with a program has steadily increased, jumping from 15 percent in 2015 to 25 percent in 2018 to 33 percent in 2019.

This year also yields an outstanding overall match rate compared to national statistics.  Fisher’s match rate for pharmacy graduates was 84.9 percent, compared to 64.4 percent nationally. Fisher ranks in the top four among 140 schools of pharmacy and number one in New York State for match rates.

“We are extremely proud of the Class of 2019 and the number of graduates securing these highly-competitive advanced clinical training programs,” said Dr. Christine Birnie, dean of the School. “These high match rates are consistent with the excellence in the intellectual, professional, and civic engagement we foster in our students.” 

In addition, 11 graduates of the School will engage in Post-Graduate Year 2 residencies, an experience that leads to further specialization in a specific field of interest.
