Fringe Festival Features Fisher Faculty

Several faculty members at St. John Fisher University will participate in the 2022 Rochester Fringe Festival.

Professor Jeremy Sarachan, chair of the Department of Media and Communication, will be directing the show, "Inner Loops; Monologues About Place," at Geva's Fielding Stage on Wednesday, Sept. 14 and Saturday, Sept. 17. The show includes the works of eight local playwrights and authors and each monologue takes place in Rochester, both in the past and present. The works include a celebration of water slides at Seabreeze, a reflection of life and death at the Strasenbergh Planetarium, and the wonders of the graffiti towers at Cobbs Hill.

Sarachan is also one of the authors, having written the Seabreeze water slides piece. Penny Sterling, an adjunct instructor in the department, will be performing her own work about resilience, determination, and biking. Dr. Jeff Liles, an associate professor in the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education, will be playing the clawhammer banjo on stage during the musical interludes.

Sarachan will also be one of the long-form improv performers during the "Improv@The Focus" show at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Focus Theater. Sarachan is a graduate of the Focus Theater’s long form improv training and performs regularly at the theater.

The department will also be presenting its annual Student Film Festival at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19 at the Little Theatre. The films include senior Mitch Steedman's documentary, "Path to Bliss" and the television pilot, "Purgatory," created in Dr. Todd Sodano's Television Production class.

Dr. Rubén L. Gómez, a professor of Spanish at the University, will perform in a play, “Nobody Lives in 6C.” Set during the ice storm in Rochester, New York, the play introduces audiences to an empty apartment, a cat who plays piano, a drag queen who faces a despotic mother, and a mysterious encounter. Nobody is exactly what you think; the lady is a tramp, and the pizza man delivers more than pies. The play, written by Candide Carrasco and directed by Nick Russo, will run at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17 and 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, at MuCCC. Tickets are $11.
