St. John Fisher University, Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Host COVID, Flu Vaccine Clinic
The St. John Fisher University Wegmans School of Nursing is partnering with the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and Monroe County Department of Public Health to host a COVID-19 bivalent booster and flu vaccine clinic. The clinic will run from noon to 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17 at Mt. Olivet (141 Adams Street).
Mt. Olivet, one of the oldest and largest Baptist churches in Rochester, is situated in a zip code with some of the greatest health disparities in Monroe County. The clinic aims to help address health care needs by offering COVID and flu vaccines to community members.
“This is just a jumping off point for what we hope becomes a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership with Mt. Olivet,” said Dr. Pam Mapstone, an associate professor in the School of Nursing. “For the community, together we can begin to address the disparities that currently exist, and for the School, it provides our students volunteering at the Church with important insights into these communities and the health issues they face.”
For Mt. Olivet, the vaccine clinic aligns with its long history of serving the needs of the community. Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Rickey Harvey said, “Events like this highlight the church’s history as a beacon of hope for the community. We are called to be a light to the world. This collaboration with St. John Fisher University is not only a way to bring the community together, but it also showcases the fundamental role that the church has played throughout history, particularly in helping those that are the most vulnerable.”
Community members can register for the vaccine through the County’s online system. Individuals are eligible for the Moderna (age 18+) or Pfizer (age 12+) bivalent booster if it has been at least two months since they have completed initial vaccination or booster.
