A new bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity will give students at St. John Fisher College hands-on experience needed to excel in this rapidly growing industry. The new program is now enrolling for the spring 2020 semester.

The program provides a solid foundation in information technology and computer science. Courses in the principles of cybersecurity are complemented by studies in cyberlaw, malware analysis, and programming. Students who complete the program will have the tools and techniques needed to protect and secure digital assets for organizations of all sizes; and will have a deep understanding of digital forensics, ethical hacking, and cloud security.

“This is an IT and technology-based degree where students will work with the tools used by professionals in the field,” said Dr. W. Scott Harrison, director of the program. “It’s exciting because we are focused on teaching our students how to become the security experts in their companies and organizations: protecting assets, identifying when intrusions happen, and conducting forensic work in the event of a breach.”

Housed in the School of Arts and Sciences, cybersecurity courses will be taught by faculty in the computer science and mathematics departments. Program courses include Computer Architecture; Cyberlaw, Policies, and Management; Digital Forensics and Ethical Hacking; and Malware Analysis; among others.
