Sport Management

At the amateur level through to the pros, sports and athletics are big business. Fisher’s sport management program helps you find your place within this large and growing industry.

The sport management program provides business lessons specific to sport. Throughout the program, you will examine common principles in the sport industry such as management, marketing, finance, and law. You will then apply what you have learned to the various segments of the industry through internships and practicum.

You also will critically analyze the role of sports in societal issues such as drugs, violence, gambling, and discrimination based on race, ethnicity, and gender.

Program Overview

The sport management major is designed to provide you with a broad-based foundation of knowledge in the liberal arts and in business. Classes blending theory with practical examples and required field experiences provide the tools needed for successful careers in sport.

An important part of the sport management major is the experiential learning opportunities offered through the practicum and internship courses. Practical experiences and internships allow you to learn more effectively by applying classroom theory to real work situations. These courses also provide continuous feedback on the academic training you receive throughout the program.

The curriculum stresses strong writing and oral communication skills, as well as the computer skills necessary to effectively communicate ideas in today’s work environment.
