Political Science Internships and Activities
Internship Opportunities
Experience political and administrative processes firsthand. Internship opportunities within the program exist at the local, state, and national levels.
As a political science major, you may qualify to participate in the semester-long internship in Washington. The Washington Program offers students a guided intensive work and academic experience in the offices closest to the national policy-making process. Spend a semester working with decision-makers, political parties, or select interest groups.
Participants in the Washington Program have interned with:
- The United States Supreme Court
- Amnesty International
- The Environmental Protection Agency
- The Department of Justice, and more
You may also participate in the New York State Assembly or Senate internship programs. These internships provide a small stipend in addition to class credit while you are working and studying in Albany. Local and regional intern placements include the United Nations Association of Rochester, Refugee Resettlement Services, and the Rochester and Syracuse mayors' offices.
Activities
EuroSim
EuroSim allows you to participate in decision-making simulations of the European Union. Every year, nearly 200 students from approximately 20 institutions meet in Europe or the United States for four days to play the roles of European Union members to negotiate a policy proposal. The program also includes cultural excursions, social events, and meetings with European Union officials.
Clubs and Organizations
Pi Sigma Alpha
As a political science student, you may be eligible for induction into Fisher's Psi Delta chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. Email slazardeux@sjf.edu regarding the criteria for admission to the honor society.
Political Action Club
Fisher's Political Action Club (PAC) is open to all students interested in politics and political science. The Club sponsors an annual trip to Washington, D.C., a variety of speakers, and campus-wide discussions of political topics.
Constitution Day
St. John Fisher University recognizes Constitution Day each year on September 17. The political science department annually hosts activities to commemorate the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787.
