Program Eligibility

  • Applicants must be a graduate of a nationally accredited baccalaureate nursing program (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, or the National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation).
  • Admission consideration is for applicants with a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher, with preference to applicants with a GPA of 3.3 or higher (a cumulative GPA from all post-secondary schools attended). 
  • Applicants must have a minimum of one year of current RN clinical experience at the time of application and be currently employed as an RN in a direct care clinical setting.
  • A grade of B or higher is required in undergraduate health assessment and research (evidence-based practice) courses.
  • A grade of C or higher is required in a prior college-level statistics course.
  • Adult/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) applicants must hold current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification and have a minimum of one year of current hands-on acute care clinical experience.
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner applicants are strongly recommended to have experience in mental health care.

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work. (For the quickest transcript processing, please contact each institution attended and request an official transcript with electronic delivery to St. John Fisher University.)
  • Two recommendations. You will be prompted to assign your recommenders within the online application. Note: We will not accept letters from friends, family, or non-healthcare supervisors. Required:
    • At least one professional reference from an advanced practice colleague (NP preferred; CNS, CRNA, PA, MD, or CNM acceptable) who can speak to the quality of your nursing work, professional conduct, and potential for success in an advanced practice role.
    • One professional reference from a nursing supervisor or clinical leader prepared at the master’s or doctoral level who can speak to your professional conduct, nursing performance, communication and leadership skills, and potential for success in an advanced practice role. 
  • Current résumé.
  • Current, active, unencumbered RN license in the state in which you are employed as an RN and intend to complete your APRN clinical experiences.
  • Recorded interview via the Kira Talent Platform. Applicants must clearly articulate the nurse practitioner specialty role to which they are seeking admission, display a high level of motivation, and show preparation to pursue the rigorous program of study. (Once your application is submitted an email invite will be sent to you to begin your recorded interview.)
  • TOEFL if indicated.
