Starting at a new place as a transfer student can be intimidating, but Noah Ackerman explained that it felt as though he had been here for his “whole college career.”

Visiting Fisher was a turning point in Ackerman’s decision about transferring, and now he recommends that students considering a transfer to Fisher “come see firsthand” all that attracted him to campus. From his very first conversations with faculty, Ackerman felt it was “evident how much effort is placed on getting to know students on a personal level.”

After studying at Onondaga Community College, Ackerman chose to complete his undergraduate studies at Fisher because he believed “the professors here at Fisher heavily invest in all of their students to make them the best students and people they can possibly be.”

Fisher’s network of partner companies and organizations creates ample opportunities for career exploration. Ackerman was able to secure three internships with professional sports organizations to build hands-on skills for his future. “My education here extends far beyond the classroom,” Ackerman explained. “Fisher has allowed me to grow immensely through internships and professional connections in the sport industry.” Explore opportunities to grow in career readiness through the Fisher network.

Determined to pursue a career in dentistry, Sebastian Mateo wanted to find a program that would fit his goals after graduating from Finger Lakes Community College with an associate degree in liberal arts. “Fisher has given me a new perspective on what it takes to achieve my goals, and through Fisher, I have been able to make a road map for my plans,” Mateo explained.

With his eyes on his goals, Mateo transferred to Fisher despite feeling out of his comfort zone initially. “I was nervous about starting a new chapter in a completely different place,” Mateo stated, “but then I saw the caring professors who are willing to help, the friendly people who also call Fisher their home, and the amazing food.”

Matt Schneider

Though he had every intention of going directly into the workforce after finishing his enlistment in the United States Navy, Matt Schneider reassessed his plans when he and his wife were about to become parents. “This changed my entire outlook on the future,” he said. “We moved back to Rochester, and I can remember seeing a commercial for Fisher and just thought I’d look into the possibility of going back to school.”

“When I first called to set up a tour of the campus, I had no idea if I was planning to enroll,” Schneider explained. As he toured campus, he saw himself with the opportunity to excel and complete the undergraduate degree he started before joining the Navy. “I walked away from my visit with so much more information about the school, and I knew this was the place for me.”

Staff members at Fisher’s Office of Transfer Admissions work directly with incoming students to transfer credits and ensure a smooth transition. “The transfer process was simple and everyone from the admissions office and the Veterans Services Office was available to help at every point along the way,” Schneider said.

Though he started his studies as a biochemistry major, Schneider is now preparing to enroll in the Wegmans School of Pharmacy at Fisher. What started as intentions to simply enter the workforce shifted to purposefully preparing for his career. “Becoming a Fisher student was one of the best decisions I've made in my life,” he declared.

Schneider encourages anyone considering a transfer to visit Fisher: “Set up a time to tour the campus and see what the atmosphere is like.” Schedule a visit today to see how a transfer to Fisher can accelerate a successful career.
